Project overview
An obsolete DC motor replacement path was converted into an AC motor and VFD package while protecting the driven machine requirements.
Obsolete DC motors can be difficult to maintain, but conversion must preserve process speed range, torque behavior, and the mechanical interface.
The replacement path used an AC motor and VFD package selected around the existing DC motor's output characteristics and site constraints.
The plant gained a modern drive architecture while keeping the driven machine requirements at the center of the conversion.
